Established in 1991, the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) is a publicly-funded research institute in Hong Kong. Its mission is to explore political, economic, social and cultural developments in the contemporary China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, etc.

Besides organizing seminars and international conferences, the CEFC publishes China Perspectives (the sister publication of the French-language Perspectives Chinoises), a quarterly entirely dedicated to the study of the contemporary China.

In 1994, a branch office was set up within the Research Center For Humanities and Social Sciences at the Academia Sinica in Taipei.
