Director of the Edwin O Reischauer Center for East Asia Studies, SAIS and the Japan Studies Program; former professor for 20 years at Princeton University; Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; former lecturer, Department of Government, Harvard University; served as the first Executive Director, Harvard University Program on U.S.-Japan Relations; former Special Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Japan; former Special Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, including Korea; currently a member of the Editorial Board of Asian Security; former Associate Editor of World Politics; Ph.D., government, Harvard University.
