Dr Christopher Dent winner of Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Special Prize for East Asian Regionalism.

"We are delighted that Dr Dent has been awarded one of Japan's most prestigious prizes for scholarship on the Asia Pacific. The award-winning book, East Asian Regionalism, makes an outstanding contribution to scholarship, shedding a penetrating light on the dynamics of the East Asian political economy. This award confirms the high quality of research produced by the staff of the White Rose East Asia Centre," said Professor Glenn D. Hook, director of the National Institute of Japanese Studies.

The award targets works by individual authors, collaborations or compilations, which "contribute to the development of 'the Pacific Basin Community Concept' and also regional studies of the Pacific Basin region," according to the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Foundation's website.

The book focuses on the main themes of the East Asia region and the study of regionalism, economic regionalism and East Asia's new economic geography. Key issues discussed include:

• Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN);
• Trans-regionalism;
• East Asia's new free trade agreement trends;
• Key transnational issues in East Asia, such as international migration and energy security.

As one of the world's most dynamic and diverse regions, East Asia is rapidly becoming a more coherent region through the development of various integrative economic, political and socio-cultural processes. Published by Routledge, East Asian Regionalism will inevitably be essential reading for students and researchers of East Asian regionalism, Asian politics and Asian economics.
